Commisioned Art work

Geisha Girl

This commison was created using various fine courses of Ventian Plaster, gold leaf, paint and pen work.  The piece is finished with a highly polished wax which adds to the alure and contrast of the piece.  Its surface is textured, layered and so smooth to the touch that you have to run your hands over it

What is Tadelakt?

What is Tadelakt?

Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan plastering technique that creates a smooth, waterproof, and polished surface. It has been used for centuries in Moroccan architecture, particularly in hammams (traditional bathhouses) and other interior spaces. Tadelakt is derived from the Arabic word "Tadelakt," which means "to knead" or "to rub." The technique involves applying a mixture of lime plaster and pigment onto a substrate, followed by polishing with stones and rubbing with olive soap to create a unique, shiny finish. This is one of the hardest products to work with and only experienced craftsmen and woman should attempt to use this product.

Historically, Tadelakt was used to waterproof cisterns and water storage areas, as well as to decorate interiors. Its origins date back to ancient times, with its usage becoming more refined and widespread during the time of the Almohad dynasty in Morocco (12th-13th centuries). The technique has persisted through the centuries due to its practicality and aesthetic appeal, and it continues to be used in both traditional and contemporary architecture and interior design.
